Oddly enough, fans say that the most controversial character on the show was not Robin.

The series follows the lives of a group of friends living in New York City. For 9 long seasons the show managed to attract new admirers and although the ending was not to everyone's liking, How I Met Your Mother definitely succeeded in achieving the status of a legendary TV comedy.

The main character of the show is Ted Mosby, who tells his children how he met his wife and their mom. However, not all fans appreciate the hopeless romantic attempting to find his true love on the streets of the big city.

One of the main reasons for the hatred was Ted's inability to let go of his past relationships. He often brought up his exes, especially his ongoing affair with Robin, which made the character seem desperate and obsessed.

Ted is incredibly self-centered. Even though his friends had their own lives and problems, Mosby often made everything about him. He would interrupt conversations to talk about his problems. This narcissistic behavior prevented viewers from empathizing with him and worrying about his happiness.

Ted's personal life became a major source of frustration for fans. Throughout the series, he had many failed relationships, often due to his own mistakes. His inability to learn from past failures and make better dating choices began to bore viewers.

Ted seemed doomed to repeat the same patterns over and over again, making it hard to root for him to find true love.

Some fans still defend Mosby, saying that most blame the character for the show's inarticulate finale, even though Ted is actually a loyal friend and a true romantic.

What do you think of Ted?

But it's hard to deny that the protagonist is the cause of his own problems. And when this is repeated for 9 seasons, it becomes difficult to feel sympathy for the character. Redditors have pointed out that Ted tells all his partners that he wants to get married, but what he really wants is a fairy-tale romance, and to get it, he makes a mess of everything.
