Here's Why TBBT's Sheldon Cooper Would Be The Most Fantastic Dad Ever
We know his son is in good hands.
Summary:
- Sheldon Cooper is a character from the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
- Sheldon is a technical genius and the Nobel Prize winner, yet he’s known for being eccentric, selfish, and bad at reading social cues.
- That puts in question his parental skills, especially knowing that he has at least one child in the future.
As much as we'd love to see The Big Bang Theory's sequel focus not on the parents, but on their children struggling or succeeding in their own lives and continuing the legacy friendship, that seems like a long shot for now.
Although the TV series ended in 2019 with the exciting news of Penny's pregnancy with Leonard's child, and Bernadette and Howard were already parents at that point, Raj and Sheldon remained childless. That didn't stop the fandom from speculating about Sheldon and Amy's future.
As confirmed in the narration of the first episode of Young Sheldon season 4, Sheldon Cooper will become a father later on. He and Amy have at least one son, whom he names Leonard in honor of his best friend and longtime roommate.
While this information is nice to know, it has caused many people to seriously consider whether Sheldon would make a good parent. Or would all the written contracts, OCD symptoms, and rules he has for himself and others be too much for a child's fragile mind?
Sheldon Cooper and His (Future) Kids
While some people believe that Sheldon will forever remain too selfish to actually be a good parent to his son and any other children he may have with Amy, others feel that The Big Bang Theory has shown that he can grow enough to become a better person.
Redditor MajorZombie7204, for example, believes in their analysis that all the little quirks and flaws that make Sheldon himself will still remain as a part of his personality, but he will eventually become a tame version of the menace that he proves himself capable of being to his friends:
“I think Sheldon will be pretty good at it. <...> As with all parents, he's going to make mistakes along the way. He's likely to be a bit overprotective of them. But, he was raised by parents who loved him unconditionally and accepted him for all his differences. He is very aware of that and it would seem that he would do the same himself.”
Throughout the seasons of the show, Sheldon has set quite a few boundaries, rules, and high expectations for the adults around him, simply because he expects to be held to the same standard. When it comes to children, on the other hand, it's fair to assume that he would be more lenient.
He comments on parenting in a conversation with Beverly, recalling his mother's way of comforting him. Given that he was somewhat spoiled as a child, he will have a good example from his memories to apply to real life. This is also seen in other parts of his narrations in Young Sheldon. He understands parenting way more than he did back then.
If you want to catch up with Young Sheldon you still have your chance to do it before season 7 premieres on CBS next February. You can stream both, the original The Big Bang Theory series, and the prequel, on Netflix or MAX.
