Here's Why Stranger Things 5 Most Obvious Plot Twist Doesn't Seem So Obvious to Characters
If you think you know who is the secret Vecna ally in Hawkins, you're probably right. However, it's only fair that literally every character is in the dark.
Stranger Things season 4 has left the Hawkins party in its darkest place so far. Max is in a coma, and the Upside Down has launched an attack against the town shortly after the gang attempted to defeat Vecna. Their endeavour wasn't particularly fruitful, as the villain managed to escape, albeit with severe gunshot wounds (thanks Nancy).
Now that the fifth and final chapter of the Netflix hit is in limbo due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes, Stranger Things fans are left to be speculating and theorizing. This time, we're going to leave the most obscure theories in peace and address one of the most popular instead.
Many viewers share the belief that Hawkins counselor Kelley may be a Vecna ally because of many factors, starting from her reluctance to pound the alarm and finishing with her extremely suspicious clock pendant (as we remember, the ominous clock is one of Vecna's eeriest symbols).
Kelley knew all Vecna's victims, knew their symptoms and fears, and was probably the one luring the kids into Henry Creel's trap, fans believe. But how on Earth did no one in Hawkins suspect her?
Wasn't she supposed to alarm someone, knowing that two out of three students who were suffering from headaches and nightmares were killed in the same way? Well, the answer is of course yes, but hey, remember: it's the 80s we're talking about.
Many fans note that PTSD symptoms are extremely tricky to figure out for an 80s school counselor with zero training in the area. Kelley's lack of action could simply be a sign of her not having a clue; it doesn't necessarily mean she's a sinister Vecna ally.
Some fans believe that Kelley was nothing but a plot device to make sure the gang could make all the necessary connections, especially for Max to figure out just how she herself is connected to all the other victims.
But others believe season 4 had too much Chekhov's guns for this one not to shoot.
Well, no matter how devious Kelley really is, fans think that it's perfectly understandable that no one in Hawkins suspects the counselor.
"What she saw was so non-specific and common that it wouldn't raise any red flags. The town has been through a lot of trauma in general, so I imagine she sees a number of students, and that of those students, a fairly large percentage have both nightmares and headaches," Redditor havenshereagain noted.
So no, the "Kelley was Vecna's spy all along" isn't as obvious as you think. Which only makes the wait for Stranger Things season 5 more exciting!
