Here's When The Winchesters and Walker: Independence Will Air on The CW
Can't wait for the return of Supernatural's Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to screens? Same here — but at least we have actual release dates to wait for.
Despite the fact that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki will both return in separate projects and not in one, as many fans expected them to, it is still a relief to know that fall will provide us with new content with the two.
Ackles is expected to be back with The Winchesters — the Supernatural prequel following the story of John and Mary Winchester but still including Dean somehow.
The Winchesters premiere is scheduled for October 11, with the first episode to air on The CW from 8:00 to 9:00PM (Eastern and Pacific time).
However, if you feel you can't wait this long, Jared Padalecki and his Texas ranger story, Walker, are there to help you.
On October 6, Walker will air on The CW from 8:00 to 9:00 PM (Eastern and Pacific time), returning with season 3. Right after that, the series' spinoff, Walker: Independence, will follow, airing from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Like The Winchesters, Walker: Independence is a prequel to its parent show, following the story of Abby Walker and Hoyt Rawlins. The latter is a rogue searching for a purpose, while Abby is seeking justice after her husband's murder. After they cross paths, their journey takes them to the small Texas town of Independence.
Abby is an ancestor of Jared Padalecki's Cordell Walker — a legendary Texas ranger who returns to his hometown after an undercover assignment in the parent show. The Walker universe is loved by The CW fans, as the series has become one of the network's most-watched projects. Walker's pilot episode alone was The CW's most-watched telecast since January 2018.
Meanwhile, Padalecki's on-screen brother, Jensen Ackles, wastes no time as he exec produces The Winchesters and brings back what is arguably The CW's most iconic franchise. The prequel has already sparked speculations that a big Supernatural reunion may be on the cards, with even the parent show (which was wrapped up after 15 seasons) to be given a new life potentially.
However, as of now, The Winchesters remain a prequel story about the parents of Dean and Sam Winchester, even though many fans have taken issue with the way the new show seems to be retconning the parent series. In Supernatural, John became a hunter after his wife Mary fell victim to Azazel; but The Winchesters imply that it was in fact Mary who introduced John to the world of monster hunting.
Ackles, for his part, has pledged to stay true to the Supernatural canon, sparking fan theories that The Winchesters might explore multiverse and alternate dimensions if the show indeed aims to pull off both storylines in the end.
In order to find out, fans will have to wait for the October premieres — after all, it's just a little over a week.
