It's been a while since we've seen a good Western.

Walker 's prequel is shaping up to become one of the most successful The CW shows in a while; a strong female character, resolutely stunning aesthetics and both story and cast looking that good – what can possibly go wrong?

Creating a spin-off series is one of the boldest swings in the television world, so if one is coming out, it naturally makes everyone curious. But there is no denying that the audiences love to see different worlds and perspectives on the original story.

Walker: Independence, a prequel to Jared Padalecki 's modern drama Walker, is all set to premiere on the 6th of October, 2022, and fans are excited. The anticipation has been building amongst them since CW announced the show's details, and we are here to hype you up even more.

The spin-off Walker: Independence comes after Walker's success, which itself is a modern take on Chuck Norris starter Walker, Texas Ranger (1993-2001). The trailer has Abby Walker in the front and centre, hinting at a female perspective of Classic Western. Anna Fricke, the executive producer, expresses her interest in a "modern twist on the classic Western…something unexpected and subversive." A forward-thinking Bostonian taking the lead feels fresh and modern-day for sure.

The trailer has everything laid out for us; the show is set in the late 1800s and revolves around Abby Walker, a Boston native. Abby's husband is set to become the new sheriff of Independence, Texas but gets shot and killed in an ambush. Despite her husband's death, she manages to reach her destination with the help of a local Indigenous tribe and tracker called Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez). Abby soon realises that her husband's death was not random but murder with intent. For Abby, the new sheriff, Tom Davidson (Greg Hovanessian), is the prime suspect as she believes he is the one who killed her husband.

In the trailer, we can see that she is determined to uncover the truth. She meets and connects with other locals whom McNamara calls "the many weird and wonderful characters". One of the locals, Hoyt Rawlins, warns her not to take matters into her own hands, but it seems that Abby is more hellbent on revenge than ever.

The trailer has us completely hooked, and we can hardly wait. "Tom deserves to die for what he did," says Abby, followed by the next clip where she cocks a gun and braces herself for a fight. It seems we're in for a wild ride as we follow Abby on her quest for justice. Throw in some action, adventure and shocking twists, and we have the perfect recipe for an entertaining hit show.
