Looks like we have the end of an era here.

Yes, it is true: The Voice's longest-tenured coach is leaving the show. Blake Shelton announced that he will resign from his position on October 11, noting that he will bid adieu to the revolving chair after season 23.

"I've been wrestling with this for a while, and I've decided that it's time for me to step away from The Voice after Season 23," Shelton said in a statement first reported by TVLine. "This show has changed my life in every way for the better, and it will always feel like home to me."

Shelton has been a coach on the show since the very beginning, with eight of his vocalists winning the grand prize. This season will be his final one as he is joined by fellow coaches Camila Cabello, John Legend and Stefani.

Despite the fan love Shelton enjoyed, people don't seem to be overly surprized by his decision to leave, noting that he has been hinting at it for quite a long time. According to some fans on Reddit, his exit means an end of an era in a sense that it also burns the bridges for other ex-coaches.

"That probably means Gwen [Stefani] will never return either: can't see her being on the show without Blake," Redditor Responsible_Line_652 suggested.

But other people believe that it could also mean new possibilities: for instance, Reddit user batsofburden does not rule out the two coming up with their own show.

When season 23 airs, Shelton and Kelly Clarkson will be joined by new coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper. After that, fans suggest, The Voice might come up with another country artist to replace Shelton with.

"Maybe [K]elsea? She's worked on the show before and I think she'd be great on it," Redditor brianh_bbq said.

Other fans came up with candidacies of Luke Combs, Eric Church, Thomas Rhett, Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, or Darius Rucker, as well as Jimmie Allen.

However, as of now, it is unknown who will replace Shelton in his revolving chair.

Season 23 of The Voice will air on NBC next spring.
