Here's What Rick Riordan Really Thinks of Disney's Percy Jackson Show
Amid multiple TV series adaptations and reboots, fans are understandably worried about those projects' quality. Apparently, in the case of Percy Jackson, there's nothing to worry about: Rick Riordan watched the show and seems happy!
It's hard to keep track of just how many classic and borderline-classic young adult series are being relaunched, reimagined, and adapted for TV lately.
We've got Harry Potter, Twilight, Avatar, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, and more happening all at the same time. While it's great, there are reasonable concerns about these reboots.
The industry's been heavily enjoying the trend to milk the already-popular franchises in the past years: from Disney 's notorious live-action remakes to this most recent surge of relaunching what can be described as "everything you were obsessed with at younger age", countless stories are coming back to the big screens.
Some fans are cheering, but others are more cautious.
You never know if the new attempt at reviving a franchise will fail as miserably as the previous one (looking at you, live-action Avatar) or maybe ruin the already-beloved series (the Harry Potter case).
No matter the production cost, there's always room for disappointment. While for most of these relaunched franchises, we can't be sure, there's great news for all the Percy Jackson fans out there.
First of all, the production ended this February, so now it's time for post-prod.
Second of all, it seems like we're off to a great adventure when Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes out.
During his recent The Sun and the Star book tour, Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson book series, revealed that he'd already seen cuts of the show's season 1 — and he was more than pleased with what he got to see.
"I've seen cuts of all the episodes at this point, multiple cuts. <...> They're great. I was like, 'Oh, thank goodness. I think the fans are going to be pleased.' That's all I want," Mr. Riordan shared.
According to the author, the show still has a lengthy process of post-production ahead of it as the CGI-heavy nature of it suggests, but at this point, he's incredibly happy with the current progress made at Disney.
There's still a lot to do, but "the story works", he claims.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expected to be released at some point in 2024.
