Here's The Reason Why Homelander Always Needs A Speedster On His Team

Although The Seven is a legendary group of the most powerful superheroes in The Boys universe, there are still some powers that the group would not be as successful without. As their leader, Homelander is well aware of this and does everything he can to keep them at the ready.
One of the members of The Seven should always be a speedster. No matter how times and circumstances change, speed is one of the crucial superpowers, giving the whole team the privilege to use their special abilities and emerge victorious from any battle.
Mister Marathon was The Seven's original speedster, who was eventually replaced by A-Train, and he is the one who shows the complexity of his powers in The Boys. While A-Train is very powerful and dedicated to his team, he understands that he will eventually slow down with age, and that will get him kicked off the team, as has happened to Mister Marathon before.
Even though he was able to regain his title as the world's fastest man and rejoin The Seven, A-Train realizes how thin the ice is on which he's skating. Homelander is no fool, especially when it comes to world domination: he wants the best of the best on his team, and he won't be merciful when the time comes to boot one of the Supes out.
Speed is essential in every battle the team faces. It is one thing to have all sorts of different superpowers, from lasers to water, but the main advantage that the Supes should have over those brave enough to fight them is the ability to strike first.

With Homelander's tactical skills and A-Train's physical speed, The Seven always has the advantage of throwing the first punch. However, the second thing Homelander values is loyalty, so as soon as A-Train decides to break it, he'll be out and replaced by someone younger, faster, and more dedicated.
