Here's How Keanu Reeves Reacted to That Bizarre Matthew Perry's Diss
It's been almost a month since Matthew Perry released his book Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, where he opened up about his never-ending battle with all kinds of addictions and his relationships with movie industry peers and co-stars, but we're still puzzled – why did he make that joke about the most humble actor ever, Keanu Reeves?
Just to refresh your memory, the Friends star took a jab at Reeves as he remembered his friends who succumbed to addiction.
"It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?" Perry joked.
It was a bit of a shock to fans and apparently to Reeves, who, according to US Weekly, did not see it coming.
"Keanu thought the comments came out of left field," the insider says. "It's kind of backfired on Matthew anyway, which is why he had to apologize," the report said, citing a source close to Reeves.
In fact, the Chandler Bing actor later apologized for his strange joke, saying he did not mean to hurt the feelings of Reeves, whom he is a big fan of. "I should have used my own name instead," Perry said.

Reeves had been struggling with addiction for years, and several years ago he admitted to using Class A narcotics, but this is not something unconventional for the Hollywood crowd. While some actors never admit to having an addiction, others are open about it. Perry and Reeves are no exception. What is certain, however, is that Reeves is one of the most unproblematic actors of all time. And The Matrix star is undoubtedly a gifted human being.
Perry's joke looks even worse when you consider what Keanu Reeves has been through in recent years.
His daughter was stillborn. His ex-fiancé died in a horrific car accident. His younger sister Kim had a decade-long battle with leukemia and the John Wick actor donated 70 percent of his The Matrix profit to hospitals for treatment.

Unlike Perry, who, judging by the book, has always been a spoiled person who spends hundreds of dollars on private jets just to get a dose, Reeves has had to go through personal tragedies that, in the long run, have made him a strong, kind, generous, and humble human being.
Why did Matthew Perry took a shot at Reeves is a mystery and will likely remain so for years to come.
