Here's How Hayden Christensen Put On 30 Pounds To Play Darth Vader

Hayden Christensen surprised 'Star Wars ' fans by reprising his iconic role as Darth Vader in the Disney + series, once again starring alongside 'Ewan McGregor ' as Obi-Wan Kenobi. But it's been nearly 20 years since we last saw the actor in that landmark role, and it looks like Christensen hasn't had an easy time getting into the dark suit. With just one final episode left, Christensen decided to share with his loyal fans how he prepared for the role.

In a conversation with Fatherly the actor detailed his struggle to reprise his Darth Vader part, explaining his physical and psychological transformation to fit the role.

"I think that process was very important for me. I needed to become that character again, physically. I just consumed as many calories as possible. I put on 25 or 30 pounds to fill out that [Darth Vader] suit," Christensen said.

It seems that the actor did not plan a holistic diet, preferring to eat as much high-calorie food as possible. But continuing this for a long time proved to be completely impossible.

"I try to avoid the dad bod thing. And I was trying to maintain that Vader body after we finished. But honestly, I pretty much just went back to my old diet. I kind of deflated after that," Christensen added.

Fans are certainly surprised by Christensen's commitment to his character, but many wonder if such a significant weight gain was really that necessary – why the actor needed to bulk up for the role, if 'Kenobi' viewers can't even see him properly given the very particular Vader costume?
