It's never too early to get ready for the winter holidays.

Director James Gunn decided that he is the best person to make things clear about the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' holiday special. And he might have been right because a lot of people seemed to be confused about what this special is and where to watch it.

Here's what James Gunn revealed about it himself.

'The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special' is going to be a TV special, not a feature-length film, and Marvel fans will be able to check it out on Disney Plus.

According to Gunn, the special is set to take place chronologically between 'Thor: Love and Thunder ' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3'. It will be a part of the MCU canon and will contain "some important new elements in the Guardians' story."

Moreover, there is definitely going to be a Christmas soundtrack, including original music, Gunn teased. The composer of Volume 3 of GotG, John Murphy, has signed up for the holiday special as well.

In order to clarify things, the director also said that not all of the characters that are featured on a fan-made poster for the holiday special are actually a part of it. The fan-art features Star Lord, Gamora, Mantis, Nebula, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot. However, Gunn did not elaborate on who exactly will be left out.

However, we should definitely expect someone new. Back in 2021, Gunn teased that the holiday special will be "introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time." Naturally, he then remained tight-lipped about who it might be, but fans have suggested it might be the introduction of the Nova Corps – an intergalactic peacekeeping force – that Gunn hinted at.

The holiday special will be released in December 2022 on Disney Plus, to be followed by the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' threequel in 2023.
