Henry Cavill's New Fantasy Franchise Highlander Gets an Exciting Update from the Director
For all the fantasy-loving folks at home, we have great news: the Highlander reboot Chad Stahelski and Henry Cavill are working on is setting up an expansive franchise.
Highlander used to be a sensational experience for its viewers back in the day, but now, most people don’t really remember it. For years, this brutal fantasy universe was considered dead — until it was revealed that Chad Stahelski, the producer of John Wick, is working on a reboot together with the Superman actor Henry Cavill.
This news understandably blew up since both men are well-respected in the industry, and the audience loved their previous works: combined, the fans of Stahelski and Cavill’s movies include millions of people who are now eagerly waiting for the new project — an epic and grim tale that was almost forgotten, Highlander.
While it’s news for no one that Henry Cavill was the first actor to be cast in the Highlander reboot, there have been many rumors about it. Some claimed that in the end, the Superman star was called off; others speculated that the reboot was dropped altogether… But with the recent update from director Stahelski, these “inside reports” were proven false.
First of all, he confirmed that the Highlander reboot is in the works, and there are no cast updates meaning that Henry Cavill is clearly staying on the project.
Second of all, the final goal is incorporating the reboot into the already-existing franchise and potentially reviving it, so they leave as much space for the future as possible.
“I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property,” Chad Stahelski revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
This news sounds sensational to us: from what we understand so far, we’ll get an epic reboot of an iconic past franchise, more grim fantasy action from Cavill, a phenomenal director, and potentially, even more projects to follow it up. Isn’t it great?
