The actor was afraid of such a responsibility but now he seems to be more than ready.

Back in 2018, rumors appeared that Henry Cavill might get a chance to become the new James Bond and replace Daniel Craig.

Since then, however, the information has never been confirmed, and the studio is in no hurry to announce the name of the new agent 007.

Earlier there were hints that Idris Elba could be the next Bond, but he is only five years younger than Craig. Tom Holland was also interested, although he seems to be too young for the iconic role.

However, Cavill remains the absolute favorite among fans, and it turns out that the actor even auditioned for the role more than fifteen years ago.

Henry Cavill has repeatedly expressed his interest in playing 007. In the early 00s, then 22-year-old Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond in the movie Casino Royale.

But in the end, the role went to 38-year-old Daniel Craig. According to Cavill, he was the second choice for the role of 007, but the Bond producers chose Craig.

Cavill is glad he didn't get the part, as he says he wasn't ready to play James Bond at the time.

The same opinion was shared by the casting director Debbie McWilliams, who shared in an interview with RadioTimes what the filmmakers were guided by in the choice of an actor:

"We did look at a lot of younger actors and I just don't think they had the gravitas, they didn't have the experience, they didn't have the mental capacity to take it on, because it's not just the part they're taking on, it's a massive responsibility. So we kind of scrubbed that idea and went back to the drawing board and started again."

There is a possibility that a less known actor will be cast as James Bond.

James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has said that the new movie will reboot the franchise and to rethink the movie series, the creators will probably need fresh blood.

Henry Cavill is now strongly associated with the audience with Geralt from The Witcher and Superman from the DC Universe.

The writers of a new Bond movie could cast an actor who hasn't been part of a major franchise yet.

The James Bond franchise has grossed approximately $19 billion to date (adjusted to inflation), and new movies have all the chances to significantly increase this already impressive figure.
