We could've missed on perfect Superman.

If you are a fan of the DC cinematic universe it's very likely you are a Henry Cavill fan as well. Although there were quite mixed opinions on his acting, you can't deny how perfectly he fits the part.

Dapper and handsome, Cavill made the role of Clark Kent his own and was extremely hard to let go with the most recent James Gunn 's announcement that he will not be featured on The Flash.

Losing the actor from the part is one thing, devastating nevertheless, but manageable among the audience. Losing the chance to ever see him in the role in the first place would be far more disappointing.

And this was a real possibility back in the day when Henry Cavill auditioned to play Batman for Christopher Nolan.

At that time Henry Cavill lost his part to Christian Bale, which was the right choice on Christopher Nolan's part.

This choice created a perfect base for the ultimate success of the whole trilogy of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Besides, this choice created a perfect protagonist/antagonist dynamic between Batman and Joker, portrayed by Christian Bale and Heath Ledger respectively, which was later praised by critics.

What's funny about the story is that years later Henry Cavill's Superman was criticized by the same critics for… resembling Batman too much.

While that was mostly the director's choice to make the Man of Steel a little darker than expected, with the less resistance to killing, Cavill played this range of emotions very well.

That, perhaps, explains once again why James Gunn decided to go with a different approach to Superman in his reboot, which doesn't, however, make it less sad to all the fans.

If you want to rewatch Henry Cavill's run as Superman, you can stream Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League on Netflix or MAX.
