Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra Couldn't Stop Laughing During This 'Lion King-ish' The Witcher S3 Scene
Despite the grim circumstances of filming the latest season of The Witcher, one scene had Cavill and Chalotra cracking up all the time as it was too close to The Lion King…and unscripted.
Season 3 of Netflix ’s The Witcher saw a lot of drama both on- and off-screen. While in the series, the events have become darker and more devastating with Ciri getting hunted, Geralt beaten almost to death, and the Nilfs’ intrigues advancing further to destabilize the Continent, in real life, Henry Cavill was filming his last episodes on the show.
Admittedly, there wasn’t anything to stimulate a light and funny mood on the set during those days — but the cast found their own sources of joy. Even while shooting the grimmest season, the lead actors did not give in to sadness and kept having fun whenever possible. For instance, Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra kept cracking up while filming S3E4.
In her recent interview with Vulture, the Yennefer actress revealed that she and Cavill couldn’t stop laughing during one particular scene. In that scene, the sorceress and the Witcher are arguing, and in the distance, Ciri and Jaskier are parodying them while trying to guess what the former couple is bickering about.
The thing is, since the scene was focused on Ciri and Jaskier, only their duo received an actual script — and Chalotra and Cavill had to improvise.
“We had to improvise an argument, and we didn’t get anything out. We just laughed the whole time. I don’t know how they managed to put that together in the edit because it was coming to the end of the night, or rather the morning, and we just couldn’t stop laughing. We were just saying gobbledygook,” the Yennefer actress admits.
The fact that this scene was so similar to a particular sequence in The Lion King didn’t help the two actors keep their composure, either. How can you not laugh when fooling around with your co-star and comparing your duo to that of Simba and Nala who are spied on by the jealous Timon and Pumbaa? Cavill and Chalotra were losing it.
It’s actually a wonder that the scene was so well put together in the end…but it’s nice to know that the lead actors had some fun before one of them left the show for good.
