Heartbreaking True Meaning Behind Violet Bridgerton’s Flowers Obsession In S2
Yet another Shonda Rhimes’ classical tearjerker.
From Hyacinth's name to that one scene between Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury discussing gardening, Violet's life has always been connected to flowers in one way or another. While she clearly finds joy in them, they also symbolize one of the greatest tragedies in her life, one that has forever affected the Bridgerton family.
As viewers were shown during the flashback in Season 2 of the series, the death of Violet's husband, Edmund, was caused by an allergic reaction to a bee sting. Unfortunately, without modern medicine to help him, he suffered severe symptoms and died in the arms of his pregnant wife.
The sad irony was the reason for Hyacinth's name: her father was stung while trying to pick blooming hyacinths to bring home to Violet. Her name, though strange, was a perfect fit to symbolize the never-ending love her parents had for each other.
Sadly, the horrors of Edmund's death continued to haunt Violet years after the fact. Many believe that her care of Kate Sharma with flowers for every single day she was in a coma was directly related to her own traumatic experience connected with death among flowers.
Sending a basket of flowers to Kate once would be a simple and polite gesture to express your grief. Sending fresh flowers every day is a bit more excessive.
While some fans assume that this was Violet's way of welcoming not only Kate but the entire Sharma family and making up for her absent son, others believe that the intentions were deeper.
It is no secret that some people tend to compare the smell of death to the smell of rotting flowers. And as unfortunate as it is, Violet knew that to be the exact truth. That was the last thing she wanted for anyone, especially the young woman her son had grown to love, so she made sure she was always surrounded by the smell of life instead.
Fortunately, Kate survived, and Anthony wasn't forced to repeat his mother's fate of losing someone he loved at such a young age.
To see what the future holds for both the Bridgerton matriarch and the newlywed Viscount, keep an eye out for news of the Bridgerton S3 premiere.
