Heartbreaking Reason Young Sheldon Fans Won't See Tam Back Anytime Soon
That is how childhood friendships are ruined.
There are many things that the Young Sheldon creators have chosen not to keep in tact with the story that was told during the filming of The Big Bang Theory.
While you would expect such storytelling inconsistencies in a show made by a different team, as they may not want to stick to the restrictions made before them, it is quite an unusual choice for those who were in charge of the storylines from the very beginning.
It took some time for The Big Bang Theory fans to get used to the changes and come to terms with them, but they were able to accept the vast majority of them and just go with the flow. Besides, Young Sheldon's storylines often make a lot more sense than the ones that were made before.
Young Sheldon viewers have accepted a lot: from George being a completely different character, without the addictions and other flaws he was originally given, to Billy the bully not being a bully at all. But there was another change that caught their attention: Tam's sudden disappearance from the show, which didn't fit the description given before.
What happened?
As we were told in an episode of The Big Bang Theory titled The Tam Turbulence (S12E4), Sheldon's long-time childhood friend Tam Nguyen did indeed make it onto the enemies list after Sheldon had just moved from Texas to California. The reason is as bizarre as you can imagine: Sheldon hated the fact that he didn't move with him.
What doesn't really fit with the original story is that in Young Sheldon, the boys seem to drift apart much earlier. It's logical that without Sheldon's presence in school, there's no real need to show Tam here and there throughout episodes, but his absence feels oddly impactful to the audience.
In reality, Tam will probably not be in Young Sheldon anytime soon. For all we know, the sitcom could end without him ever coming back, depending on how the show handles Sheldon's trip to Germany in an upcoming season 7.
With all the delays due to the completed WGA and ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's very likely that this will be the last season of all, so people's hopes of seeing all their favorite characters are completely understandable.
