Heartbreaking Grey's Anatomy Episode That Made Even Jessica Capshaw Sad
Anyone that watches Grey's Anatomy will tell you that in a single episode, one can experience a whole rollercoaster of emotions.
When it comes to the acclaimed medical drama, fans have seen and felt it all. There is love and heartbreak, complex medical cases and complicated patients, heartfelt moments, and shocking twists. For many fans, the moments on the show that are the hardest to forget are the ones that had them desperately grabbing a box of tissues.
In an interview with Jessica Capshaw, who plays Doctor Arizona Robbins, it was revealed that some episodes are so sad that even the actors and actresses involved are left heartsore. One episode in particular, early in the series, Capshaw described as heartbreaking, making the actress herself sad.
The episode in question takes place in season 6 and features the sweet, young Wallace Anderson. Wallace had been in and out of the hospital for treatment for short gut syndrome, and his condition was continuing to decline. He and Arizona had formed a close bond, he listened to her and trusted her. The pair even shared a birthday, he was going to turn eleven that coming Friday.

His parents had pledged millions of dollars to the hospital to find a cure for his condition, in the hopes that they could buy him more time. Wallace's condition worsened further and his parents urged Arizona to operate, but she did not believe he would make it through another surgery. His body was too weak.
She ends up performing the surgery but Wallace goes into septic shock and dies in the operating room, he was not able to handle the surgery, and Arizona's worst fears had come true.
Heartbroken, Arizona returns home only to walk into a surprise party for her birthday. Her birthday, and what was also meant to be Wallace's birthday. She is devastated and overwhelmed and leaves to return to the hospital and take Wallace's parents to see him.
Little Wallace was never afraid of dying, but he was afraid of nightmares. As his devastated parents stood over their son in the morgue, his mother tried to do his special chant that Wallace believed would protect him from the nightmares, but she couldn't bring herself to get the words out. Tearfully, Arizona continues for her.
