Hazbin Hotel: 5 Reasons to Watch the Hit Animated Show If You Still Haven’t
Dark humour, charismatic characters and a unique setting – what more could you ask for?
Animator Vivienne Medrano (or VivziePop) released the pilot episode of Hazbin Hotel in October 2019. And we had to wait more than four years for a full season.
On January 18, Amazon Prime Video launched the first season of Hazbin Hotel, a comedy show about demons, and it was an absolute hit.
There’re five reasons why Vivienne Medrano's show is worth watching for all fans of adult animation.
1. This is a Unique and Stylish Story About the Inhabitants of Hell
Hell in Hazbin Hotel turned out to be unique – the creator of the series blurred the line between demons and angels. The heavenly servants are not distinguished by their nobility and are only happy to get rid of sinners. And it is easy to see ordinary people in demonic creatures: many of them are not as cruel as they seem at first glance.
The unusual setting sets Hazbin Hotel apart from other adult animated shows. There is plenty of satire and interesting discussions about good and evil.
2. Hazbin Hotel Has Excellent Musical Performances
This is a full-fledged musical: each episode features musical numbers with songs written for the show, performed by actors from Broadway musicals. There are rock numbers, rap, and compositions reminiscent of Disney projects.
Songs reveal the characters more deeply – for them it is a way to share their feelings. Some of the songs are worth saving to a playlist (like Hell Is Forever Sing-Along).
3. All Characters Have Their Own Personality
The creators of Hazbin Hotel came up with unique traits for all the characters.
Cheerful Charlie is always thinking of others, but never takes time for herself. Her companion Vaggie has forgotten how to trust others. The Radio Demon Alastor hides a terrible secret and manipulates others with great skill.
4. There Is a Lot of Dark Humor
The writers have no limits when it comes to humor. Of course, Hell is populated by inveterate scoundrels prone to all sorts of vices. Therefore, there will be jokes about death and violence – minor characters are constantly trying to kill each other.
And there will be a lot of jokes about sex – Angel Dust literally turns every conversation into a stream of vulgarities, even during fights.
5. Hazbin Hotel Has Nostalgic Animation Style
Now, projects with unusual visuals stand out from the already boring 3D animation.
VivziePop has a recognizable style: it is reminiscent of old animated shows, but at the same time it is somewhat similar to Invader Zim and some other projects from the Nickelodeon channel that we all missed so much.
