Harry Potter Star Accuses Steve Martin of ‘Horrid’ On-Set Behavior
Maybe the Only Murders in the Building star is not so nice in real life.
Steve Martin is an actor, comedian and musician whose name has become synonymous with talent and humor. He became popular for his unique skills in comedy and starred in many movies that became hits.
Recently, Steve Martin has had a second wave of popularity – he starred in the series Only Murders in the Building with Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Martin, both in person and on screen, comes across as the nicest person you'll ever meet, but one of the Harry Potter stars thinks just the opposite.
Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Sprout in Harry Potter, in her memoir Oh Miriam! Stories from an Extraordinary Life, recalled working with Steve Martin on the set of Little Shop of Horrors.
Martin portrayed the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, and Margolyes played his assistant. Miriam claims that the actor treated her poorly and even rudely during filming:
“During my only musical number, Dentist, I was hit all day by doors opening in my face; repeatedly punched, slapped, and knocked down by an unlovely and unapologetic Steve Martin. Perhaps he was method acting, and [I] came home grumpy with a splitting headache.”
Still, Miriam admitted that Martin is a brilliant actor, even though he was "horrid" to her on the set.
Steve Martin himself did not leave the actress' statement unanswered:
“But when it is implied that I harmed her or was in some way careless about doing the stunts, I have to object. I remember taking extreme caution regarding the fake punch – the same caution I would use with any similar scene.”
Apparently, the actors have different recollections of what happened on the set of Little Shop of Horrors, and it's possible that Steve Martin simply didn't realize that his actions were inconveniencing his co-star.
Steve Martin was not the only actor the actress criticized. Last year, Miriam Margolyes was asked which actor she enjoyed working with the least, and without hesitation, she named Arnold Schwarzenegger. She said that he always seemed too confident and even behaved unprofessionally on the set.
