Harrison Ford’s Light-Hearted Romcom Is Right What You Need This Weekend

Being recognized mostly as an action star with his Indiana Jones movies, Harrison Ford is also very much of a romantic flicks’ actor. It’s proved by his convincing performances in such gems as Sabrina (1995) and Random Hearts (1999).

However, there is a 80s romcom that both displays Ford’s comedy potential and gives you a fair amount of nostalgia for those distant times when the grass was greener.

Its plot revolves around Tess, an ambitious receptionist who tries to make it through her boss Katharine’s whimsical nature. When Tess gives her an excellent business tip, Katharine simply steals the idea, and it makes the secretary eager to seek revenge.

She’s given a chance to perform it, as Katharine is sent to the hospital and Tess starts pretending to be her boss. She initiates a major deal with Jack, an investment broker played by Ford, but her affair goes wrong when Katharine learns about it.

This synopsis seems to be of much interest to the audience now, as it’s not like today’s romcoms, where the protagonists meet under fairy-tale circumstances and are quick to fall in love with each other. The love story it presents is extremely rare and unique.

Besides, the movie is quite realistic about workplace politics, including business relationships between eccentric female bosses and employees. That’s why it can be compared to Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway ’s The Devil Wears Prada ( 2006).

However, it doesn’t lose the charm of 80s romcoms, and a number of Hollywood tropes and typical jokes can be also found in it. But it is the leading cast who makes it really charming, as apart from Ford, it stars Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver.

Titled Working Girl, this flick both holds up in 2024 and draws out a great amount of nostalgia. If you see its trailer and poster you’ll be immediately taken back to the 80s.
