Harrison Ford Reveals the Main Secret of Indiana Jones’ Success
After four decades of playing one of the most iconic adventure heroes in the history of cinema, Harrison Ford finally shares the secret to his character’s popularity.
The Indiana Jones franchise started all the way back in 1982 with Raiders of the Lost Arc and has been going strong ever since.
Harrison Ford, its irreplaceable actor, has turned the franchise’s protagonist Indiana Jones into the most recognizable adventure hero of all time, and each consequent movie cemented his fame.
There are many things that made Indiana as popular as he is, and a lot has already been said about this hero over the past decades.
However, in the wake of the final Indiana Jones entry, The Dial of Destiny, Harrison Ford himself revealed what he thinks is the main reason for how relatable and famous his hero has become.
According to the actor, the success of Indiana Jones has little to do with his strong and outstanding features; in fact, it’s quite the opposite.
Harrison Ford believes that it’s Indiana’s weaknesses, fears, and flaws that make him so relatable and humane.
“To make the audience understand that the physical challenges, the emotional challenges, the overcoming of fear, the overcoming of just how you can believe the circumstances you've gotten yourself in, and how you might work your way out of them is a big part of the story,” explained the actor.
The iconic adventure hero has never been a Superman: he’s terrified of snakes, he’s not the greatest at building up relationships, and he often gets injured because he’s an archeologist and not a superhero.
All these things made the audience relate to the man: after all, we all have our fears and weaknesses. No one relates to Superman, but most people can put themselves in Indiana’s boots.
In the final installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, he will have to deal with an even bigger “flaw”: his own old age. In his youth, Indiana knew exactly what was going on and could take a punch or two.
In The Dial of Destiny, Ford’s character will be surrounded by a fast-paced world he doesn’t always understand, and his wit will have to take him through dangers he could previously face head-on.
And this is why Indiana Jones’ last movie will be as successful as the previous ones. Years pass, generations change, and the world’s most famous archeologist remains a flawed but very loveable and relatable character.
