Relax a bit: The Dial of Destiny will be the final movie for Indiana, not Harrison. But Ford explained why this is the end — and why he thought this movie was needed.

Let’s be real here: did anyone really think that Harrison Ford wasn’t tired of playing Indiana Jones after four decades of portraying him? Neither did we.

Still, there was no real certainty when it came to whether The Dial of Destiny would be the final stand of the famous archeologist. Now, we know for a fact that Jones is done.

Harrison Ford recently confirmed that the fifth entry of the franchise will also be the last, and he won’t be reprising his iconic role again.

Apart from that, the actor shared his thoughts on why The Dial of Destiny was needed in the first place — and what he wanted to say with it. Admittedly, the last installment meant quite a lot to Ford.

“As much as we’ve come to know the character through his experiences and his relationships, this is the last Indiana Jones film for me. I wanted to deal with the end of his career. I wanted to deal with his age and less physical capacity available to him,” explained the actor.

As much as Harrison Ford wanted to make the final chapter for his own sake, he also wanted closure for his iconic character.

Ford thought that Indiana was not taking his age lightly, and he needed to warm the old adventurer up a bit before leaving him for good. Helena Shaw, Indiana's goddaughter, helped him come back to life.

“He’s also ending his academic career, which has not been the high point of his life. So, he’s a bit damped down in spirit until he’s challenged by the character that Phoebe plays. In the context of that relationship, he learns to love and laugh and live again,” shared Ford.

For the actor, this will be a great and justified ending to Indiana Jones’ four-decade-long story.

With The Dial of Destiny bringing closure to the longest character development ever, we will rest assured that the legendary adventurer has found the people who care about him and hung up his whip for good.
