Harrison Ford Can't Really Explain Why He Joined MCU
The iconic actor joined Marvel as Thunderbolt Ross, replacing the late William Hurt.
Harrison Ford was a stellar but surprising addition to the MCU roster, with many fans wondering why the Hollywood legend wanted to be a part of Marvel's superhero universe in the first place.
Now, as he prepares to reprise his role as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: New World Order, Ford addressed his decision to join the MCU, admitting that he doesn't really know why.
"I don't know. I can't explain myself to myself, I just work here. I thought, 'Everybody else seems to be having a great time. I watch all these terrific actors having a good time [in Marvel movies],'" Ford told The Hollywood Reporter.
One thing about being a part of MCU Ford enjoys is a chance to be "doing something different to what I've ever done and pleasing people with it."
"So I'll try a piece of that," he added.
This is not the first time Ford has signed on for a massive franchise with a huge fan base around the world, having already been a part of the Star Wars universe as Han Solo. However, the iconic actor is less than sentimental about the role; in fact, he shaded his character as "dumb as a stump" and pointed out that there was little complexity about Solo. At one point, Ford even expressed regret that his character wasn't killed off sooner, according to Starpulse.
At this point, it's unclear how much complexity Thunderbolt Ross will have in Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts. We do not yet know how the paths of Sam Wilson's Cap and Ross will cross, but fans are already gearing up for a possible confrontation of the century, with some suggesting that Ross will eventually turn into the Red Hulk.
Captain America: New World Order will be released on May 2, 2024.
