Hangover's Bradley Cooper Almost Bagged This DC Superhero Role
Bradley Cooper is rumored to be joining the new DC Universe in Superman: Legacy, but the actor was actually supposed to become part of DC over a decade ago!
Bradley Cooper is a well-known actor by now with a whole bunch of lead roles in his resume — but so far, he hasn’t starred in any of the major superhero franchises which is fairly surprising considering how few popular actors have been left out by now.
Still, Cooper almost became a part of DC a few times already!
As you probably know, the only proof of Bradley Cooper ever having come close to a major superhero franchise is him voicing Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now, there are rumors of Cooper joining Superman: Legacy as Lex Luther, which is a major feat. But it doesn’t even come close to what he’s already missed!
Bradley Cooper was auditioning for the role of Green Lantern. This went terribly: as the actor admits, he just couldn’t make himself perform properly and kept trying to imitate the deep and gravely voice of Batman for some reason.
This was, of course, almost the exact opposite of what was expected from him for the Green Lantern role.
"I couldn't not do Christian Bale 's Batman when I was doing the audition. I don't know what it was! <...> That [was also] the worst Batman impression ever," admits Cooper with a laugh.
The end result was as great as you can imagine, and Bradley knew he lost the role the moment he saw the recording of his Green Lantern audition.
"I saw a little clip as they were rewinding it, and I thought, 'Oh my god, that can't be.' It looked like a Saturday Night Live sketch! I was like, 'Oh, I'm not getting this! Now I can really do my Batman! Who gives a sh*t?'" recalls the actor.
Still, Bradley was pretty happy that Ryan Reynolds bagged the role — he even claimed that if he was the director of Green Lantern, he would’ve picked Reynolds himself, too. Cooper was apparently very impressed with his colleague’s performance and even called him "perfect."
Now, over a decade has passed since that story. Bradley Cooper has already given his voice to Rocket Raccoon and is reportedly considered for the role of Lex Luther in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.
We can totally see him there, so let’s wish the actor good luck and pray he doesn’t try to flex his Batman impression again!
