And it’s also the very first historical role for a famous actor.

Summary:

  • Historical drama’s era is thriving with a lot of big streaming services having already released plot-twisted historical shows — and one of the most anticipated shows like this is already coming to Apple TV.
  • The brand new series stars Michael Douglas and tells a story of one of the leaders that was at the cradle of the United States’s future independence.
  • The show, per Apple TV’s tradition, will have its episodes released weekly starting from April 12.

There’s never enough of the shows that are based on the life that people had a couple of centuries ago — and the streaming services have been recently proving it.

From Apple TV’s Manhunt about Abraham Lincoln’s assassin to Starz’s Mary & George that depicts numerous sins and debauchery at King James I’d court, the new exciting history-related projects don’t seem to be bothering the viewer thanks to their versatility — and one more show like this, from Apple TV once again, is already on its way to the platform.

Franklin, Apple TV’s brand new series, will now bring its viewers to one of the most fascinating periods of life of Benjamin Franklin, one of the Father Founders of the United States.

The plot will not depict Franklin at the cradle of the nascent country, but will rather find him already in his 70s on the way to France — there the charismatic leader will make an attempt to talk the French monarchy into giving its support (and money) to the American Revolution.

Benjamin Franklin here is portrayed by Michael Douglas who gets to play a historical role for the first time in his long-standing career. As the actor revealed, getting to know his character made him realize that the real Benjamin Franklin was a true diplomat with his own (and quite efficacious) way of negotiating that even can seem like a seduction.

However, Douglas may be right in this as it was Franklin who managed to make a seemingly impossible deal with the French forming the Franco-American alliance of 1778 and thus getting a peace treaty with the English which, in its turn, guaranteed the United States’s independence.

Franklin will premiere on Apple TV on April 12, with every new episode being released weekly.
