Guillermo Del Toro’s Highest-Rated Movie Dubbed ‘Superbly Strange’ Is on Netflix

We know del Toro as one of the most bright-minded and eccentric modern day directors and we also know that when he decides to create something, it’s going to be amazing, though also will definitely have a dark shade.
Apparently, the director spent half of his career trying to pursue his dream movie, Pinocchio. Before Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio release in December 2022, the director had been trying to sell the idea for 15 years, until Netflix finally bought it in 2018, and the production began.
Those familiar with del Toro's approach to filmmaking know that he puts a lot of time and effort into everything he does. His crew spent 1000 days bringing the story to life using the painstaking method of stop-motion animation, in which puppets are carefully manipulated frame by frame to create the illusion of movement.
How Is Del Toro’s Pinocchio Different From All the Previous Ones?
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is not a remake of the classic tale, but is a rather dark and disturbing story of an ill-fated old man given a chance to love again. The main characters of it, Geppetto and Pinocchio and many others find themselves living in Benito Mussolini's inter-war world of military salutes, strict conformity and violent machismo.
And in that world, del Toro wanted to create a disobedient puppet, but with a human heart and soul. The thinking puppet, who comes to understand that blind obedience is bad, especially in a fascist world.
Del Toro created a completely new universe, sometimes too weird, but still one in which he perfectly highlighted the most important themes through his imperfect characters. No wonder the film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. And with a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score, it is the best-rated Del Toro film to date.
“It is a movie that deals with death, loss, and grief, and about having an imperfect family, which is okay. I loved how in this movie, everyone is a puppet, not just Pinocchio. It works so well, because without being animated, it does not give off a creepy vibe for Pinocchio being a living boy made of wood,” Redditor ausburten said.
