Grim Gen V Theory Paints Season 1 Finale In New Light
Maybe Marie and the others weren't really strong enough to face the strongest supe and live.
Summary:
- Gen V TV series explored the world of The Boys from a fresh new angle and proved to be a worthy addition to the franchise
- The show has already been renewed for a second season, which should solve the biggest mystery of the finale of season 1
- However, some fans believe that a simple but incredibly dark explanation is entirely within the realm of possibility
The debut season of the Gen V TV series offered a new, fresh look at The Boys TV universe from the perspective of young superhumans who, unlike most of the main show's "heroes," had not yet been corrupted by absolute power and corporate shenanigans.
The story of Marie Moreau and other students at Godolkin University proved to be a worthy addition to the franchise, with a number of unexpected cameos from familiar characters along the way.
But while the show has already been renewed for a second season, a grim fan theory suggests that the season one finale was actually much darker than we were led to believe.
Beware of spoilers ahead.
Did Marie And Others Really Survive The Finale?
When Homelander suddenly descended from the sky to supposedly stop the massacre of non-supes instigated by Cate Dunlap and Sam Riordan, it seemed for a moment that Marie, who was trying to stop the chaos herself, had just gained a powerful ally.
Unfortunately, Homelander didn't appreciate the fact that she "turned against her own kind" by using her powers to explode Cate's arm, causing him to instantly strike her down with his heat vision.
To the surprise of many fans, Marie survived the encounter and woke up in a mysterious white room with Jordan, Emma, and Andre, wondering where they were and how they got there.
Some fans find it incredibly unlikely that they faced arguably the most powerful superhero in the show's universe and came out alive, suggesting that they actually died but were transferred into Cate's mind.
Cate's Powers Have Grown Significantly Over The Course Of Season 1
Much of the first season of the show was devoted to Cate becoming more powerful and in control of her powers, and at one point she even accidentally shared her consciousness with her friends, leading to them exploring her mind.
Fans point out that although Cate and Sam turned against the rest of the team at the end of the season, it is unlikely that they actually wanted them dead.
So when Cate saw Homelander about to slice Marie up with laser beams, she must have panicked and transferred her mind back into her own.
While this theory sounds plausible, many other fans don't believe that the show's creators actually killed off most of the main characters after just one season.
Either way, we will most likely find out if it is true or not when the promotional materials for season 2, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025, are released.
