She has barely made it through more times than we can count.

Summary:

  • Grey's Anatomy is an ABC medical procedural drama that has been on the air since 2004.
  • The show follows the daily lives of the staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, with Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey in the lead from season 1 to season 19.
  • One thing fans wish the show had done more of is to show how the characters look after the traumatic events in their lives.

If there's one thing you shouldn't look for in a procedural drama, it's realism. These shows tend to run for a very long time, which makes it harder for the writers to resist the craziest ideas and most unexpected twists. Most of the time, viewers don't seem to mind, as long as the show manages to stay entertaining.

However, there are some things that people wish the teams behind the show would think about a little more. While it's fine for characters to change in both personality and appearance, it would be nice to see a change in what they've been through over the course of the show.

Grey's Anatomy's Meredith Grey is a perfect example of a character who lacks the most realism. Although Ellen Pompeo is known as a champion of natural female appearance, and Meredith Grey ages as any woman would over the course of almost 20 years, it's her body that raises questions.

Meredith Grey’s Major Traumatic Events

As the titular character of the show, who has been at the forefront of every episode since season 1, Meredith Grey has suffered a lot over the course of the series. She lost her mother, went through a traumatic reconciliation and then another break-up with her father, lost her husband, her sister and some of her closest friends.

But it's not just the mental trauma that counts. Working in a hospital like Grey Sloan Memorial proved to be a physically demanding job that put Meredith's own life in danger more times than we can count.

From almost being blown up by a bomb to being the victim of an aggressive patient, some of which she managed to escape unharmed, while others sent her straight into surgery. With such an eventful life, you'd think her body wouldn't be completely free of bruises and scratches. But that's not the case.

An appendectomy, a liver transplant and a Cesarean section alone would have left a lot of visible marks on her torso. Not to mention the injuries she sustained after being attacked by the epileptic patient and the plane crash long before that. Even the cut on her hand, which required several stitches, should have left a scar, but it didn't.

Given that Grey's Anatomy is a medical show, the team behind it certainly has the resources to put the necessary make-up on the actors. However, this aspect continues to be overlooked from one season to the next, creating an unnecessary continuity flaw to add to all the other inconsistencies of the series.

If you're feeling nostalgic and want to watch Grey's Anatomy from the beginning, you can stream it on Netflix, Hulu or Disney Plus. Or tune in to ABC on 14 March to catch the premiere of the 20th anniversary season.
