Grey’s Anatomy Vet Teases ‘A Big Wildfire’ Coming in Season 20 Finale
Hopefully, it won’t mean any more exits.
Summary:
- The 20th season of ABC's medical drama may have started out strong, but it has all but lost its appeal as it moves forward.
- With the news of two cast members leaving and the show being pushed later in the network's schedule, fans fear the worst.
- According to the show's veteran James Pickens Jr, who portrays Dr. Richard Webber from season one, Grey's Anatomy's in-show universe will also suffer from a major problem.
Some TV shows struggle to maintain consistently high quality writing and production over the course of a few seasons. When it comes to 10 years of the exact same story, fans can forgive the team a few lapses. With 20 seasons under its belt, the show becomes truly legendary, no matter what nonsense happens on screen.
But all great things must come to an end. Though many predicted Grey's Anatomy's demise with this season, as the show's titular character, Meredith Grey, took a backseat, it didn't happen. Now, fans believe that the show's 21st season will likely be its last, if the show continues to move in the same direction.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Finale Teaser
A lot of things about season 21 of Grey’s will rely on the base that the finale of season 20 creates. Even though the prospects aren’t the brightest, with enough emphasis on the drama and some intriguing twists, the show may still create a cliffhanger that will end up attracting the viewers to the next season’s premiere.
According to James Pickens Jr, who has been present on the set of the show as Dr. Richard Webber from the very first day, and has seen all kinds of turns, trials and tribulations the characters had to come through, this season’s finale will have something massive to lure the viewers in.
“Without giving a whole lot away, it's going to be pretty impactful. <...> We've got a big wildfire thing that's coming. How that's going to impact us moving with season 21. It's going to be true Grey's Anatomy, that's all I can tell you,” the actor said, talking to Digital Spy.
While Pickens Jr. was likely referring to the amount of drama and scandal that the 'true' Grey's Anatomy has, there is another element of the show that Shondaland and ABC may bring back for this season's finale.
With two people already confirmed to be leaving the show, there is a good chance that their characters will not survive. Midori Francis, who played medical intern Mika Yasuda for the past two seasons, is still in talks to return for season 21 to wrap up her storyline, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The same goes for Jake Borelli's Levi Schmitt.
If you are still interested in seeing how Grey's Anatomy will handle all of the show's ongoing issues and set things up for season 21, be sure to tune in to the season finale on Thursday, May 23 on ABC.
