Grey's Anatomy: The Episode Where the Laws of Physics Took a Break
One storyline in Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy makes one wonder whether Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital doctors have superpowers.
Throughout its 17-year run, Grey's Anatomy has probably featured every possible injury and sickness known to humanity. Some of them were close to reality, others way unrealistic.
But there was one episode that made even viewers far from the medical field question the show's realism and sanity.
The dedicated fans have long been accustomed to the lead character Meredith Grey going through every near-death experience in the book.
Grey's Anatomy: We Suspended Disbelief, But This Moment Was Too Much
She had a bomb blow a patient in front of her to pieces. She survived a plane crash. She had her jaw smashed to pieces. She hemorrhaged during a C-section in the pitch black. She went into a COVID-induced coma.
At this point, it seems that if a season hasn't featured Meredith in a life-threatening situation, the creators consider it a wasted season. Luckily, the character always gets out alive and miraculously healthy to the delight of fans. However, there was one episode that even the most hardcore fans dubbed unrealistic.
The Way Meredith's Exit Was Handled Has Even Haters Agree On One Thing
When asked on Reddit what the most unrealistic thing in Grey's Anatomy was, many fans remembered Episode 16 of Season 3 titled Drowning on Dry Land. In the episode, Meredith is knocked into the freezing cold water and quietly drowning until Derek saves her, which is already quite unrealistic.
"Derek diving into a whole sea happens to locate Meredith sinking down probably hundreds of feet in the water, swims down through all the tides and fights through water pressure as he swims a whole person up and climbs up the steps," one of the fans wrote.
Other commenters agreed that this heroic action was more fitting for Superman than a human being.
"Let's not forget that he did all that in his clothes which made him so much heavier," another fan added.
However, all commenters agreed that the most unrealistic thing about this episode was Meredith literally coming back from the dead after being dragged from the cold water all blue and unbreathing and resuscitated for several hours.
"When they said they have been at it for hours, I'm like HOURS??? So unrealistic," a comment read.
The fans agreed that if it were a patient, they would certainly die in a situation like this. But main characters usually have a special kind of magical life power that allows them to not only walk away alive but also have no chronic condition to show for all the near-death experiences.
