Grey's Anatomy Ruined Alex's Entire Character Journey in Just One Episode

Alex Karev has been a regular on Grey's Anatomy for 16 seasons straight, giving fans plenty of time to explore his character and fall in love with him. However, it looks like the show only needed one episode in order to... ruin it completely.

According to fans, there could not have been a worse way to bid the character adieu than whatever happened to Alex in season 16 episode 16, titled Leave a Light On. Seriously, those goodbye letters could not have been a bigger disaster than they were.

"I just rewatched this episode last night and I hate it. He did Jo so dirty and yeah I get he has kids and can't leave them…. But he married Jo while he supposedly couldn't stop thinking about Izzy? Sh**ty end for a fantastically built character," Redditor kalopsia1325 said.

Others continue to wish that Grey's Anatomy would have done literally anything but that to Alex. However, it's worth noting that they did not have a lot of room for manoeuvre since the actor, Justin Chambers, decided to exit the show due to personal reasons. His decision took pretty much everyone by surprise, but fans still believe that the writers could have done better.

Still, there is one thing that is a bit of a consolation.

"Personally speaking, I am glad he is not dead though. He was my favorite character and killing him off would have sucked. It would have also put Mer and Jo through another huge trauma. Am I happy with his ending? No, but I would have been more upset if he died before getting to live the life he wanted," Redditor Fitztragedy said.

And let's be honest, Shonda Rhimes is notorious for suddenly killing off everyone's favorite, so we guess... it could have been worse?
