Grey's Anatomy Once Treated Us to The Most Pathetic Sex Scene Ever
This one scene is so hard to watch that fans skip it on the rewatch.
Grey's Anatomy has treated its fans to many different emotions over its 19-year run. From dozens of deaths to very touching moments and steamiest sex scenes, viewers seem to have seen it all in the beloved medical show.
Among more than 400 episodes, there were several so cringy that fans still find them hard to watch. Probably the most awkward moment came in Episode 19 of Season 2.
Many fans agree that the interaction between Meredith and George which happened in that episode was probably the most painful TV sex scene ever.
George O'Malley was mad about Meredith Grey from the moment the interns met each other. Though George quickly found out that Meredith was dating Derek Shepherd, his feelings didn't change. He was there for Meredith when Derek's wife unexpectedly showed up and Derek chose her over Meredith. This broke Grey's heart, and George remained a loyal friend always ready to help and support.
It was clear to both viewers and characters that George and Meredith were not meant to be together. But since everyone at Seattle Grace was aware of George's feelings, the storyline needed to be resolved one way or another.
George was clearly refusing to face the fact that Meredith was only seeing him as a friend. But he needed to do it to get a chance to move on with his own arc. That's how the scene in question came to be.
In the scene, George finally got what he had wanted for a long time, getting into bed with the girl of his dreams. But he found himself in a nightmare instead.
In the middle of the, ahem, process Meredith started crying clearly demonstrating that George was not the one she would rather be with. This was so painful to watch that many fans just skip this episode on rewatch.
After the disturbing scene, George felt so angry and hurt that he ended their friendship for a while. But this humiliating encounter has become the trigger both characters needed so desperately. George came to his senses and understood that there were other people for him. And Meredith has never had another impulsive sex apart from the hot scene with Derek in the season's finale.
