Grey's Anatomy Must Go Back To Its Roots ASAP to Survive Another Couple Seasons
The producers will have to fight to see the show live past 20 seasons.
There have been many rumors about Grey's Anatomy coming to an end during its 19-season run.
Fortunately for fans, none of them have come true, and even though the focus of the show has shifted from the main character, Meredith Grey, to exploring other storylines, there are still many viewers deeply invested in the show.
To keep the show on the air, however, the production team would have to take one step forward.
Or perhaps a few steps back – to the origins.
Fans have already begun to speculate about the fate of the new interns introduced in season 19.
The thing is, Grey's Anatomy has never been particularly kind to its characters, so no new group of interns introduced after the initial group has remained stable and consistent in the show.
From the season 9 intern group, three characters were gone within two seasons. Another group of interns was introduced in season 14, and four of them were also gone within two seasons.
There is no way anyone could beat MAGIC (Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, and Christina) in the eyes of the fans, but it would be nice to see a progression of the group over the years.
Fans are hoping that the situation will change now, as abrupt endings of some storylines can directly affect the ratings of the show.
"It is different this time. All of MAGIC and MAJAC is gone and Meredith is no longer the focus of the show. They have to develop the interns if they want the show to survive," Redditor Fitztragedy pointed out, implying that producers would need to make new characters really resonate with viewers if they want to continue the story of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
We'll have to wait and see whether this reboot trick will work, and the audience would find themselves invested in new characters, just like they were with previous ones.
On Friday, March 24, news broke that Grey's Anatomy has officially been renewed for the anniversary 20th season, so keep an eye out to see any release news.
