Over its years running, Grey's Anatomy fans have seen their fair share of hookups, relationships, and breakups among the doctors and residents at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Fans have seen legendary pairings like Meredith and Derek, odd ones like Maggie and Jackson who turned out to be step-siblings, and couples they could not stand like Owen and Teddy.

When comparing all of the relationships that fans have seen over the years, there is one that they can all agree tops the list as their least favorite, because it was a mess from the start.

Some fans may have forgotten it because it happened way back in season 3 with a drunken hookup between friends, and one of them was married.

For many fans, the friendship shared between Izzie and George came at a close second to Meredith and Cristina.

Izzie and George started as interns together and shared a genuine, sibling-like friendship, but that changed after he married Callie and Izzie discovered she had feelings for him.

Their relationship started off on a negative note, with George cheating on Callie with Izzie after he and Callie had fought and he came to Izzie to vent.

When George's infidelity came to light he and Callie broke things off and he and Izzie tried to be a couple.

Fans couldn't get over the feeling that their friendship was ruined, and their relationship lacked any sort of chemistry and felt forced.

Katherine Heigl, who played Izzie, wasn't a fan of the characters' relationship either and felt that it didn't align with her character, who would never have been okay with hurting Callie, and was simply an attempt to bring up the show's ratings.

Other fans believe that Izzie getting with George was a result of her soon-to-be-discovered brain tumor, or at least that's what they want to believe.

Overall their relationship consisted of cringey kisses, bad sex, and unfathomable awkwardness that made it clear from the start that it was never going to get better.

As expected their relationship was short-lived and they agreed to go back to being friends, but that wasn't enough to change the fact that George was a cheater and his and Izzie's friendship could never go back to what it was.

George and Izzie getting together ruined the idea that a man and woman can be just friends, fans felt like the writers had taken their story too far and spoiled what could have been a fun, lasting platonic relationship between the two characters.
