Grey's Anatomy Fans, It's Time to Give Maggie a Break: Hate is Way Overblown
This perky, academically motivated doctor was introduced to Grey's Anatomy fans near the end of the tenth season as she sat down with Cristina Yang for an interview to take over as head of the Cardiothoracic surgery department.
Unsurprisingly, she became a series regular after it was revealed that her connections to the hospital ran deeper than fans could have imagined, with Dr. Richard Webber being her father, and Meredith being her half-sister, as they shared the same late mother.
Maggie Pierce joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy and started full of surprises, but one of the most surprising, and shocking one was how much some fans ended up disliking her character.
Whilst many were fond of her optimism and laughed at her inability to know when to stop talking which often landed her in awkward situations, others couldn't stand her desire to be a perfectionist and need to be a control freak, and her desperation to immediately bond with Meredith after starting work at Grey-Sloan.
Things didn't get better for her when she began pursuing a relationship with Jackson Avery. Not only did fans see her as standing in the way of April and Jackson being together, but the pair did not suit each other and seemed to argue constantly. This brought out what fans saw as a needy and annoying side of Maggie that just made them cringe. Fans were relieved when the pair parted ways.
5 Times Meredith was a Complete and Total Disaster on Grey's Anatomy
Other fans aren't so gentle when expressing their feelings about Maggie. They feel like she is always too much in other people's business and trying to solve other doctors' cases because she thinks she knows better.
Fans find her to be whiny and sometimes very immature, with some people making comments about her character needing to be killed off. Ouch!
Many believe that the huge amount of hate aimed at Maggie comes from other fans feeling like she was created to replace Lexie, and they don't like that. Comparing the two, Lexie was also Meredith's half-sister and was extremely bright, had a photographic memory, and enjoyed academics.
Perhaps fans would have liked her more if she wasn't introduced so soon after Lexie's death by plane crash and if the pair weren't as similar as they seem to be.
Grey's Fans Agree: This is Most Ruined Relationship in the Entire Show
All in all, Maggie Pierce is without a doubt a gifted and passionate doctor and a kind, compassionate person. Grey's Anatomy fans have seen some truly dislikable characters on the show over the years, and many fans can agree that although Maggie Pierce is far from perfect, she doesn't deserve the level of hate she gets.
