It's been 10 years, but they can easily remember it for 10 more years.

Throughout the 20 years of Grey's Anatomy's run on ABC, there were few characters that could compete in popularity with Callie and Arizona.

They were both insanely charismatic, made an amazing couple, and gave the show's LGBTQ+ viewers the representation they deserved.

By doing justice to the community on mainstream television, both the characters and the actresses who played them received a lot of praise.

While the end of their story wasn't nearly as smooth as fans had hoped, it didn't ruin the magic the couple had.

Aside from the messy divorce and child custody storyline that demonized Callie Torres to the point that fans were actually happy to see her leave the show and not be further degraded, there was another moment where the writers failed to do justice to her character.

If anything, it should have been a red flag from the beginning, but it went unnoticed for a long time.

We all remember one of the most traumatizing episodes of Grey's Anatomy's run, the season 8 finale, which featured a plane crash and some of the most heartbreaking deaths.

Of course, such a huge tragedy could not go unnoticed in the following episodes, and Callie fans waited to see her reaction.

She may not have been on the plane herself and didn't see the horrible things other characters did, but she was very much affected by the fact that two of her closest people were seriously injured.

Her wife Arizona has been traumatized by the disaster, not only emotionally, but physically as well. Mark Sloan, the father of her child, went into a coma.

Surely, any person would be shattered by such consequences, and fans were really looking forward to seeing Callie's reflection.

However, the writers gave it no acknowledgment whatsoever. It was as if they'd just forgotten about her existence while everyone else was dealing with the trauma.

To be fair, it's not the only time Grey's Anatomy has been criticized for handling a character's trauma inappropriately.

It's a miracle that Sloan Grey Memorial has survived this long without a counselor on board, with all the things that go on in that hospital all the time.

If you are in the mood for some quality drama, go ahead and re-watch Grey's Anatomy on Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, or Hulu.

Or catch up with the new 19-episode season on Thursdays on ABC.
