Greatest Game of Thrones Scene is Nothing But Plot Armor Story-Wise
Cinematically, it was beautiful and exciting. But creatively? Not so much.
The Battle of the Bastards is one of the most massive battle scenes in Game of Thrones, the culmination of Jon Snow and Sansa Stark's retaking of Winterfall from Lord Ramsay Bolton. In the HBO adaptation of the books, the scene was one of the most memorable in terms of cinematography, with fans still praising the shot of Jon Snow standing alone against the entire army as one of the greatest in the entire series.
However, when it comes to the storytelling aspect of the battle, things fall apart. First of all, the fact that one person can somehow withstand an attack from an entire army does not sound realistic at all.
"Ah yes one of those biggest plot armor scenes. Don't get me wrong, the cinematic was great, but story-wise it was full of 'plot armory'," Twitter user IamCruella_ said.
Many people draw parallels between the Battle of the Bastards and a certain scene in House of the Dragon, where Daemon also faced off against an entire Crabfeeder army with nothing but his sword (but, to be fair, with the help of Laenor and Seasmoke).
"Daemon should definitely have been more wounded in the end of the last episode. But for all the criticism of plot armor, I remember most seemed to have no issue with Jon surviving TWO charging cavalries front and back in Battle of the Bastards," Twitter user Tuffty88 noted.
Battle of the Bastards took place in episode 9 of Game of Thrones season 6. Notably, it was directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who was the showrunner for the first season of House of the Dragon.
