"Great" Job, Marvel: Avengers 5 Writer is Clueless About MCU Phases
Who cares what phase we are on, anyways? Not our words, though; this is what Jeff Loveness believes.
Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially begun with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, introducing the next big villain along the way.
Kang the Conqueror, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, has finally arrived to replace Thanos as the new global threat for the Avengers to face.
Though audiences caught a glimpse of him in the Loki TV series in 2021, that was just a multiverse variant of the villain, and now he has finally been properly introduced on the big screen.
Jeff Loveness, the film's screenwriter, will also pen the script for Kang's next big appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the first film about the iconic superhero team-up since Avengers: Endgame.
However, given the rather mixed reception of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, fans are a little concerned about the next big thing in the MCU. And a recent interview with Jeff might just fuel their doubts.
Despite being the writer of one of the biggest parts of the sixth phase of the MCU, Loveness confessed that he doesn't really care about the phases.
In an interview with Gizmodo, he said: "Oh I don't know what phase we're on. [...] I have heard the term "Phase Five" more in the last two months than [the entire time making the movie.] No, I think that's more of almost a thing for the internet than anything."
Although he is not the only MCU creator who does not care about all this phase stuff. For example James Gunn said basically the same thing about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, writing the plot for a new Avengers movie comes with a lot more responsibility.
After all, The Kang Dynasty will most likely set the plot for future Avengers movies, and such a carefree attitude could end badly for the writer.
Although fans admit that the whole phase system can be quite difficult. As Reddit user Few-School-3869 put it, "We have that in common", but the screenwriter can still be expected to pay more attention to the structure of the cinematic universe he or she is responsible for.
Anyway, fans will see if it is important to know all the nuances of the MCU phases only after the release of the movie, which is scheduled for May 2, 2025.
The next part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023.
