Gotham Knights Shot Itself in the Foot By Making This Fatal Mistake

It is no secret that the CW has become a home for many DC Universe television shows such as Arrow, Flash and Supergirl.

Introducing some popular comic book characters to TV viewers, the CW network was at its peak...before it started to lose the flame it once had.

One could blame the failure of another CW DC-related production, Gotham Knights, solely on the network's decline, but that wouldn't be the whole truth.

There are a number of reasons why Gotham Knights failed to reach the same level of popularity as its predecessor.

With token CW star Misha Collins in the cast, with a bunch of DC character names, with the formula that had worked before, it was an unpleasant surprise to see the ratings and critical commentary.

While some people argue that the show would do better as part of the Arrowverse, others think that it could do much better as an eponymous game adaptation. Being neither, the show just leaves the audience confused.

There is another side to the story, and another way for the show to be perceived much better than it is now. All the showrunners had to do was get rid of all the Batman connections and focus on the original story.

Without having to constantly refer back to the source material and wait for the Batman that is obviously never going to show up, viewers would be able to enjoy their experience a lot more.

The characters would also benefit from such a positioning. Besides being played by Misha Collins, Harvey Dent stands out from all the other characters because of his backstory.

And not in a good way: it's impossible to concentrate on the story when you know what's going to happen and you're waiting patiently for it.

Disconnecting the series from the original source would give his character justice and hope for developing the storyline.

Whether Gotham Knights will get a chance to redeem itself in season 2 remains to be seen. For now, you can catch up on season 1 by tuning in to The CW every Tuesday at 9 pm.
