Gossip Girl: 5 Proofs That Chuck Bass Is The Most Abusive Boyfriend in TV History
You definitely wouldn't want to meet him in real life.
Is Chuck Bass the model of a loving guy or a romanticized abuser who constantly crosses moral boundaries to achieve his goals?
Even though Bass Jr. was the main heartthrob of Gossip Girl, we think it is still the second option. The onscreen manipulator won a lot of hearts, but here's why you wouldn't want to have a boyfriend like him in real life.
1. Chuck knows nothing about consent
Chuck committed one of his worst acts early in the series when he literally attacked Jenny Humphrey and tried to seduce her. The girl told him "no" several times.
And it is unknown how things would have ended had Dan not arrived in time to help his sister. As a result, Chuck was left with a black eye.
2. He literally sold Blair for the hotel
We don't know how Blair was able to forgive Chuck and return to him after that. In the third season, Chuck made a deal with his Uncle Jack. Blair had to sleep with Jack, in which case Jack would give the hotel back to Chuck.
Blair, unaware of Chuck's involvement, also agrees to the deal to help her loved one. How could Bass let this happen and allow his girlfriend to sacrifice herself? The question is obviously rhetorical.
3. He slept with Blair behind his best friend's back
Nate and Blair have just broken up, and Chuck was already there, seducing his best friend's ex-girlfriend. Only later do we learn that there is some kind of strong connection between them.
But at this point, there can be no talk of love. Chuck should have had self-control because his friendship was on the line.
4. He left with another girl right before his vacation with Blair
Chuck and Blair were planning a vacation together, but right before their flight, Chuck sees another girl and decides that he's not ready for a serious relationship. Of course, he didn't tell his girlfriend, he just disappeared.
And poor Blair went on a trip to Tuscany alone. It's a terrible thing to just disappear without explanation and then come back with a bouquet of flowers.
5. He couldn’t say "I love you"
When Blair made it clear to Chuck that she would stay with him if she heard those three precious words, he did not say them. All because he did not want to admit his feelings first.
It was precisely the play in Chuck and Blair's relationship that made their romance so toxic. It seems that without suffering, they would have no interest in each other.
