1. Coraline
Coraline's loved ones are too busy to spend time with her. When the feeling of loneliness leads a child to a fairy tale world, she finds new parents who are always ready to be there. But soon the girl discovers that everything is not as it seems.
Neil Gaiman wrote Coraline in 2002, and the story immediately won a number of prestigious awards, and the fantasy story is still considered one of the masterpieces of animation.
2. Stardust
An ancient wall separates a small village from a supernatural universe where magic reigns supreme. Tristan promises the most beautiful girl in the village that he will bring her a star that has fallen from the sky and landed on the other side of the wall.
The movie is based on the novel of the same name, although the adaptation differs significantly from the original.
3. How to Talk to Girls at Parties
A high school student named Enn stumbles into a private party with his friends. But it turns out to be an alien gathering. There, Enn meets Zan, who is very interested in the life of Earthlings.
It all started with a short story of the same name written in 2006. Boys often think that girls are aliens, and in this work Gaiman asks the main question – what if it turns out to be true?
4. American Gods
American Gods is a fantasy series that tells the story of a war between the Old and New Gods that a recently released prisoner is inadvertently drawn into.
The novel American Gods is considered the most ambitious Gaiman’s work. When the adaptation was announced, fans held their breath: would it be possible to bring such a massive work to the screen? The series was one of the most anticipated projects of 2017, and it did not disappoint the audience.
5. The Sandman
Occultists perform a ritual and accidentally capture Morpheus. An attempt to extort a ransom for his release fails, and he is chained in a magical circle for nearly a century. Without him, the world changes drastically: some people stop sleeping, while others cannot wake up.
Eventually, he escapes from captivity and tries to fix the problems his absence has triggered.
In total, The Sandman spent more than 30 years waiting for the adaptation. Gaiman himself acted as an executive producer of the series, which means that the author of the original supervised the quality of the adaptation.
