Good Omens S3 Is Official, And It's The End Of The World Again

It's hard to imagine the excitement the Good Omens fandom felt in early 2023 when the surprising news that Good Omens season 2 was coming to their screens was announced. After a 4-year hiatus with no clear answer as to whether or not there would be more, it was the best gift the audience could have received.

However, after the heartbreaking finale of season 2, fans were very eager to find out what Neil Gaiman's plans were for the story. It was pretty obvious that there would be more to come, but with the added pressure the industry was feeling during and after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there was no certainty.

As an author, Gaiman had promised to finish Aziraphale and Crowley's story one way or another. However, everyone was hoping and praying to see Michael Sheen and David Tennant return to their iconic roles one more time.

And those prayers were answered, as on Thursday, December 14, Amazon Prime Video confirmed the renewal of the series for its third and final season.

Good Omens Season 3 Release Date

Neil Gaiman, co-author of the original novel and creator of the series, has issued his own statement to accompany the streaming platform's release. In it, the author expresses his gratitude for being able to tell the story the way it was intended, from beginning to end, and teases what the dynamic duo will face:

“Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world,” Gaiman said.

While we all know how good Aziraphale and Crowley are at dealing with all the difficulties that heaven and hell can create, this season would have a serious obstacle, as two of them did not end the previous season on the best note. What would be the biggest challenge: dealing with the end of the world or the complicated nature of the feelings they clearly have for each other, we will see.

So far there is no information about the release date of the season. However, according to Variety, who first reported the news of the renewal, production is about to begin in Scotland, so it's more than possible that we're looking at a late 2024 release instead of another 4 years of waiting.
