It's impossible to imagine the show without him now, but it wasn't meant to be.

Gilmore Girls is certainly the show that focuses on its female characters. And of course Lorelai and Rory are not the only ones stealing the spotlight.

But in this whole bunch of side characters played by amazing actresses is a rough diamond of the show. Yes, we are talking about Sean Gunn's Kirk. Bringing his character into the show as a regular was probably the best thing that could have happened to the series.

Although it's interesting to note that when Gunn first appeared on the show, he wasn't even named Kirk. He was Mike the DSL installer, who was supposed to stay on the show for that one episode.

But some time after his appearance in the show, his manager got a call from the Gilmore Girls team saying he was wanted back on the set.

At the time he thought it was strange they wanted the installer again, but as it turned out, Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted someone to play the swan deliverer to some wedding. And he wanted “someone like that installer guy.” Eventually, she ended up hiring Sean Gunn back.

But it wasn't until episode 5 of season 1 that he became a permanent character in the show with perhaps the funniest and longest-running gag. The man had 62 jobs during the show's run. 62 jobs! And he put everything he had into each and every one of them.

He was everything from a beauty product salesman to a video store clerk. He even had a self-created position as a "Daily T-shirt Salesman." Well, Kirk was your man for anything you needed to do in Stars Hollow.

Needless to say, fans fell in love with his character and enjoyed every scene with him.

“I adore Kirk. There is a reason he is one of the featured characters in the intro, because he gives the show more than most of the other top-tier characters. His romance with Lulu is just beautiful, and he is easily my favorite,” Redditor nutcracker_78 said.

Imagine that Gunn almost canceled his audition for the DSL installer guy because his manager told him the part was too small! What a loss that would have been for the fans.

And if you miss him, it's time to binge-watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Tis the season, after all.
