Gilmore Girls' Most Wholesome Thanksgiving Episodes, Ranked
Looking for a holiday comfort-watch? You could do a lot worse than to spend some time with everyone's favourite fast-talking duo, the Gilmore Girls.
With 7 seasons, there are a lot of beautiful moments, hilarious quips, and tasty-looking food on the menu (and no, we're not talking about Luke).
Here are the most wholesome and delightful Gilmore Girls Thanksgiving episodes, ranked.
4. He's Slippin' 'Em Bread... Dig? (Season 6, Episode 10)
Drama is afoot… After months of emotional ups-and-downs, things are finally settling down in Star's Hollow. But then Christopher brings surprising news to the Gilmore girls, and Luke struggles to figure out how to tell Lorelai about his daughter (Luke, have you considered just… having a conversation? Lorelai is famously good at those.)
Meanwhile, Lane's band plays a showcase, and singer/songwriter Carole King makes a guest appearance as Sophie, the owner of a music shop. Bonus points if you recognized her as the singer of the iconic Gilmore Girls theme song!
Favourite Lorelai Line: 'Quick! Wish for a Sephora to be built within walking distance!'
3. The Bracebridge Dinner (Season 2, Episode 8)
The inn was supposed to be booked up for a convention, but when a blizzard strands the intended guests at the airport Lorelai decides to invite all of her friends and family to enjoy the planned festivities. This includes a seven-course meal and a horse-drawn carriage ride through the snow. Part of what makes this episode a fan favourite is that it draws all of our favourite characters together in one place, including those who don't usually share screen time.
If you want to be technical about it, this is not a Thanksgiving episode… but it still makes the list because it has all of the essential Thanksgiving ingredients (family all eating together! Cuddling up in cozy sweaters!). It also gives us all of those sweet holiday feels.
Favourite Lorelai Line: 'We're beyond crazy. We are 'Anne Heche speaking her secret language to God and looking for the spaceship in Fresno' crazy.'
2. Kiss and Tell (Season 1, Episode 7)
The Thanksgiving episode that started it all! The people of Stars Hollow are annoyed that Luke refuses to decorate the diner for the holidays, and they won't leave him alone about it. Meanwhile, Dean kisses Rory for the first time and she doesn't tell Lorelai… which upsets her mother when she learns about the kiss through someone else.
This episode sees the beginning of a few major storylines – most importantly the complicated romance between Dean and Rory, which will go on for years to come. It also firmly establishes Luke as a loveably crusty anti-establishment type in the sometimes weirdly twee world of Star's Hollow.
Favourite Lorelai Line: 'Not gonna talk about how good you'd look dressed as one of the guys from The Crucible.'
1. A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving (Season 3, Episode 9)
It's not just for GG fans. 'A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving' made Vogue's list of television's best Thanksgiving episodes, alongside the likes of Friends and Seinfeld. It pops up on lots of other lists, too – the episode is just that iconic.
Having more than one Thanksgiving meal in a day: depending on how much you love to feast, it's either a dream or a nightmare. In this hilarious fan favourite, Lorelai and Rory end up having a whopping FOUR dinners in one day (including the deep-fried meal of the title). In between drumsticks, Lorelai is shocked to discover that Rory has secretly applied to Yale University.
Favourite Lorelai Line: 'I ate tofurkey! How do you think I feel?'
