General Hospital Unfairly Sidelines Trina, Infuriates Fans

One of the great things about soap operas is that there is nothing final about them. If you think someone has gotten their happy ending, be on the lookout for an upcoming twist. If you think someone is dead, there's a good chance they'll reappear on your screen, happy and healthy as ever.

While this may be the reason why many soaps don't pay too much attention to how they handle deaths, funerals, and grief, it doesn't help viewers deal with it in any way. If anything, it only makes viewers more outraged at the lazy approach soaps take.

The beginning of this week had the General Hospital fandom upset for all the wrong reasons. While saying goodbye to Nicholas Chavez's Spencer Cassadine was expected, as the actor is taking a break from the soap to film the second season of Netflix 's Monster, the way General Hospital handled his temporary demise is already messy.

General Hospital Spencer’s Death

The death itself felt very rushed, especially in contrast to pretty much every other death that has taken place in the Port Charles community. The show usually takes a long time to acknowledge a character's death, but considering the real-life circumstances behind it, Spencer's was very quick and almost unbelievable.

But that's not the biggest criticism so far.

All Sprina fans are now rioting on social media with the tag #TrinasVoiceMatters, unhappy with the way Spencer's significant other, who saw him die with her own eyes, was completely sidelined to let the people who weren't even there steal the scene.

While devastating to many, Nicholas Chavez's temporary departure is a great opportunity for his on-screen partner Tabyana Ali to shine in her own right, as well as for her character, Trina, to find her own path and motivations.

Completely consumed by this relationship, Trina has lost a good part of her personality to it, and now is a great opportunity to reclaim it.

Hopefully the rest of the week will be more satisfying for all the Trina fans out there. The character will definitely need time to grieve and come to her senses, but whatever the future holds for her may be even brighter than the past with Spencer.
