General Hospital Star Mulls Twitter Boycott After Losing Blue Checkmark
Elon Musk's Twitter is about to lose some stars.
The social media platform's new policy has caused a lot of discussion in the soap community.
It all started with Laura Wright, who plays Carly Corinthos on General Hospital, after she found out that Twitter had removed her from the verified celebrity list.
The thing is, it was nothing personal, and Twitter is not plotting against her. The platform's new policy is to blame – the one that oversees the blue checkmarks next to celebrities' names.
The platform started removing the old verification marks, and now you can only get one if you are willing to pay a subscription fee for Twitter Blue.
The charge is actually not that much, $8 per month. But for some users it became a question of principle.
Several soap stars have spoken out about losing their checkmarks and General Hospital's Laura Wright was one of the first to point it out.
In her account, she said that now that the checkmark is gone, she is not sure if she wants to stay on the platform anymore.
And it's not the celebrity status she's worried about, but the identity theft that Twitter's new policy will make easier.
She said that now anyone on the platform can pretend to be her and there will be no way to prevent it from happening. And that's the scary part for Wright.
She also added that now she actually spends more time on Instagram. So maybe there is no need in keeping her Twitter account at all.
But it is funny how her co-star Marc Anthony Samuel, who plays Felix on the show, reacted to the loss of the checkmark. "Twitter took my check and… the world is still spinning. How about that?" he said.
