General Hospital Fans Crave Fresh Blood, and They Already Have a Perfect Character

Through the generations of characters and actors who have appeared on General Hospital, there have always been some who have been brought back to continue the storyline and others who have been forgotten. Their existence may be acknowledged in some fan-made family tree on the Internet, but the writers seem to forget about them completely.

Now that the fans are craving fresh blood more than ever, with all the old characters going stale with boring storylines and the lack of real stakes, it would’ve been a perfect time to turn to the new gen and start building up what may as well be General Hospital’s legacy in several years time.

Jake Webber on General Hospital

Born in 2007, Elizabeth's son Jake would have been 17 years old on the show, and his appearance would be a great start to something new and exciting. Or, at the very least, a promising addition that would signal the production's intention to keep General Hospital going no matter how many struggles it faces.

Back in the day, when the show was at the top of many TV rankings, General Hospital's storylines covered the lives of teenagers just as much as they did the adult drama. With all the struggles modern teenagers go through, there's no shortage of substantive storylines the writers could have come up with. It is the lack of willingness that slows down the process.

For example, General Hospital’s star Laura Spencer was in the middle of a love triangle when she was 17. Jake’s own mother, Liz Webber, had a very important sexual abuse arc when she was just 16. The possibilities are endless, but rather than introducing a new gen, General Hospital seems to cling to the old stars.

Knowing that nothing bad could ever happen to Sonny or Carly Corinthos, it is expected that the soap will try to get the most out of them every day. However, it wouldn't hurt for Jake to figure out his feelings for Charlotte Cassadine, settle down to work for the family business, or return to the essence of General Hospital and become a doctor.

With the ratings not looking too good for the show, and the popularity of the soap opera genre continuing to decline, General Hospital may be getting closer to the verge of being canceled with each passing year. So, the only valid explanation for skipping the new gen altogether is not believing that the new gen is needed at all.
