It's actually Marie's parents who are to blame for their own death.

The opening scene of any show sets the tone for what's to come, and Gen V is no exception. The series, a spinoff from the popular The Boys universe, starts with a bang, both literally and metaphorically. But there might be more to it than meets the eye.

Gen V introduces us to Godolkin University, an institution for young supes. Marie, the spinoff’s protagonist, dreams of attending this university, rising through its ranks, and becoming the first Black woman in The Seven. Marie’s primary motivation is to prove to her sister that she is not a murderer.

The premiere episode titled God U begins with a seemingly ordinary family moment. Marie Moreau's parents are featured in a Vought Sports Network segment about the speedy supe A-Train. Meanwhile, young Marie experiences a sudden pain in her stomach.

It's not just any pain; it's the onset of her period. But this isn't a typical coming-of-age moment. Marie's powers manifest for the first time, and within moments, her parents meet a tragic end, killed by the uncontrollable blood she releases.

The scene gets pretty wild, with Marie's sister freaking out and calling her a "murderer." Right from the beginning, the spinoff shocks us with the gore reminiscent of The Boys, where out-of-nowhere chaos can happen in the blink of an eye.

However, there might be something else to this scene. Reddit users have gone into full-on detective mode, digging into this scene and finding some hidden meanings.

The original poster pointed out the significance of Marie's power being tied to her period, a natural process associated with womanhood and life. Yet, in Marie's case, it brings about death.

Another intriguing observation from the Reddit user revolves around the fact that her parents and the bathroom are covered in blood while Marie somehow isn't. This might be a sneaky metaphor that basically screams: Marie isn’t guilty, it’s her parents who gave her Compound V to benefit from it.

Another character, Emma, who is definitely becoming a fan-favorite, is also a victim of her parents’ choice — she literally has to act bulimic to use her super power. Fans can’t wait to see how this “parents’ sins” storyline will play out in the future episodes.

Episode 4 of Gen V will hit Prime Video on October 6.
