Marie's blood-bending powers aren't as unique as we've been led to believe, since another familiar character is actually able to do everything she can and more.

Summary:

  • Fans have been close to uncovering the identity of Marie's mysterious benefactor from the start
  • We already saw blood-bending powers in The Boys, but no one actually realized it
  • Marie's potential could make her a threat to even the most powerful supes

Episode 5 of the Gen V spinoff deepened the plot of the TV series by revealing that Marie Moreau, portrayed by Jaz Sinclair, is being protected by a mysterious and very influential benefactor.

They saved her from becoming one of the many unfortunate test subjects at the Woods facility when Dr. Cardosa demanded her for his experiments, as the unique nature of Marie's blood-bending powers made her crucial to perfecting the anti-supe virus, only to be denied by Dean Shetty.

Since then, fans have wondered who this shadowy figure might be, with many pointing to Stan Edgar, the former CEO of Vought International, for a very convincing reason.

Given that Marie's background of accidentally killing her own parents with her powers is virtually identical to that of Victoria Neuman, Stan's adopted daughter who turned against him in The Boys season 3, they believed that Edgar was looking for a replacement for her and Marie was a perfect candidate.

The just-released episode 7 of the show finally solved the mystery, proving that this theory was extremely close to the truth, but ultimately paid off in a slightly different way.

Marie Is Not The Only Bloodbender In The Room

It seems that Marie has much more in common with Neuman than anyone could have expected, as it was Victoria who protected the young superhero from becoming a lab rat.

After Marie manages to get a face-to-face meeting, the congresswoman confesses her secret and asks the bloodbender to use her powers to analyze her bloodstream, which leads to Marie discovering Compound V in it.

But the surprising twists don't end there, as Victoria cuts the palm of her hand and reveals that her powers, which allow Neuman to explode people's heads and limbs, are apparently identical to Marie's, mentioning that she "thought she was the only one."

Obviously, her powers are much more exquisite and advanced than Marie's, as Victoria was able to murder people without moving a single muscle just by looking at them, but watching her playfully move blood through the air leaves no doubt that she does this by manipulating her victims' bloodstreams.

The Congresswoman instantly earns Marie's trust, pointing out how much the two of them are alike, even revealing that she was also raised at the Red River Institute until she was twelve.

What Does The Big Reveal Mean For The Boys’ Universe?

Unable to resist her charm, Marie spills everything she knows about the virus designed to kill supes, inadvertently giving Victoria even more cards to play in her complicated game with mysterious objectives.

By the end of the episode, we see her use this information to the fullest, getting her hands on the only sample of the virus directly from Dr. Cardosa and immediately blowing his head to pieces once the deal is done.

While this reveal sheds more light on Victoria's twisted plans and possibly sets up the further events of the main series (or simply the second season of Gen V, since the show has already been renewed for another), it also brings more clarity to just how powerful Marie actually is.

With proper training, she could easily match or even surpass Neuman's level of power, potentially posing a threat to the most powerful supes like Homelander.

The final episode of Gen V season 1 will be released on November 3, 2023.
